Signs your battery is dead
- You turn the key or press start and hear clicking, or nothing at all
- The engine cranks slowly and won't catch
- Dash lights and headlights are dim or flickering
- You left the lights on, or the car sat for a while in the cold
Ottawa winters are hard on batteries. Cold weather cuts the power a battery can deliver, which is why so many cars won't start on the first really cold mornings of the year.
How our mobile battery boost works
If the battery won't hold a charge, we'll tell you so you can replace it before it strands you again. And if the real problem turns out to be a flat, we can fix that too.
After a boost
Keep it running. Drive for at least 20 to 30 minutes, ideally on the highway, so the alternator can recharge the battery. Avoid shutting the car off again right away.
- If it dies again within a day or two, the battery likely needs replacing
- Batteries over 4 to 5 years old often fail in the first cold snap
- Corroded terminals can cause no-start problems too. We'll point it out if we see it
